I can see why Mrs. Post would have given new brides a year. There is so much to do. First the honeymoon, then the new home, job, school. But I think a year's too long. What to do? I suggest buying your thank you notes at the same time as your invitations, and extra stamps when you buy your wedding stamps, and recording the gifts as they come in. THEN get those thank yous out within a day or two. Many people order wedding gifts right off a couple's on-line registry, and have them shipped to the bride's home. So while brides still have a "Gift Table" at the reception, it may not be as full as years' past. So new brides, there is little excuse to put off those thank you notes!
Are fiancés, and new husbands expected to help with those thanks yous? Well, that is between the individual couples, but we still live in a double standard world… if your thank yous are late or never appear in the gift givers' mailbox, the bride is the one to be blamed.
